Using examples from a variety of time-based art forms, the workshop will demonstrate how to organize footage, sound and “content” over time.
Topics will include:
• thematic, narrative, chronological and chaptered structures
• arcs, tension, conflict and resolution
• the use of binaries and polarities over time
• content distillation, module structures and “back” editing
• motifs, foreshadowing and flashbacks
• applying the structural devices of music and writing to narrative forms
• organizing footage and timelines for effective time-based editing
