Charles Street Video (CSV) is pleased to announce the completion of a major transformation of its gallery space with the opening reception of I Made This For You by Nathan Scott; an exhibition exploring the relationship between identity, platform and feed through the lens of TikTok’s For You Page, combining social post content, user input, generative, art and projection mapping to create an immersive media environment. The new gallery transformation at CSV creates a more versatile and technically advanced venue for media arts exhibitions, screenings, installations, performances, and community programming. The project was made possible through a capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The renovation significantly expands the gallery’s creative and exhibition capabilities, providing artists with new opportunities to present ambitious and immersive work while enhancing the experience for audiences.

Key improvements to the gallery include:
Projections
- Expanded Canvas: The gallery walls have been extended from 8 feet to 12 feet, dramatically increasing the vertical surface area for immersive projections.
- Precision: Three high-end Panasonic short-throw projectors have been permanently installed. The lenses on these machines are specifically calibrated to cover every inch of our newly extended walls with crisp, seamless imagery.
- Infrastructure: We’ve integrated new electrical breakers and AC power to support this high-performance equipment, while new wall mounts were installed discreetly to ensure an unobstructed viewing surface.
Sonic Depth & Control
- Enhanced Audio: To complement our specialized eight-speaker array, we have integrated a dedicated subwoofer, adding physical resonance and depth to every installation.
- Acoustic Versatility: A new theatre-grade acoustical curtain now wraps around the entire gallery space. Whether fully deployed for a focused screening, or tucked away for a sprawling exhibition, it offers precise control over the room’s sound and atmosphere.
Control Systems
- QSYS Command Center: We’ve implemented a networked QSYS routing and control system. This allows for effortless, “plug-and-play” management of audio and video, providing the flexibility needed to pivot between diverse events and complex exhibitions.
- Dynamic Lighting: A new DMX system offers remote control over the lighting rig, with built-in capacity to integrate lasers and atmospheric effects like fog machines.
Looking Ahead: To further push the boundaries of digital art, CSV is currently exploring the installation of Lidar sensors. This technology would allow viewers to interact directly with the environment—enabling a simple touch on a wall to trigger changes in video, audio, and light.
Our Vision: We now have a highly adaptable immersive laboratory. It is a space where artists are free to experiment, play, and redefine the limits of immersive storytelling.
Together, these improvements establish the gallery as a more adaptable and technologically sophisticated space, supporting both emerging and established artists working across moving image, digital media, installation, and interdisciplinary practices.
