Video's Maker Space, presents the premier of “THE FUTURE OF THE BODY,” a guerrilla video trilogy written/directed by
Istvan Kantor and captured on video by cinematographer
Jake Chirico.
Based on enigmatic scripts of post-doomsday plots and completed within 10 years, each part of the trilogy was shot at temporarily abandoned lots of demolished buildings in Toronto, without permission, before construction would begin, therefore the sites played an important part in the production.
This trilogy is an absurd, no-budget, Neoist pronunciamento, heralding the downfall of technological society only survived by malfunctioning humanoid robots. While working under constant pressure because of the illegal format, Jake Chirico’s camera captured the messianic scenes with masterful, elegant minimalism, framing each scene with precision and improvisational skills.
The cast of The Future of The Body include experimental theatre performer; Lacey Creighton, holistic action therapist; Tricia Sabo, performance artist Louise Liliefeldt and the author Istvan Kantor himself.
Kantor has achieved world wide recignition as a media artist and received numerous awards at international festivals, such as Videonale 5 Award in Bonn, Germany, 1992, Mikromkom-Soft Award at WRO93, Poland, The Telefilm Canada Prize for Best Canadian Film/Video, 1998, 1st prize of Transmediale, Berlin, 2001 and he was also a recipient of the Governer General's Award for Visual and Media Arts, Ottawa, 2004.
