Live Streaming Residency
Charles Street Video is looking to engage a young media artist interested to learn about web-based live streaming, including technical production elements, lighting, camera, and audio, and the digital software and hardware required for streaming via the internet. Live Streaming may be used in any number of ways: to document live performances, to conduct workshops or seminars, to demonstrate technical or new equipment functionality, to increase the audience size for artist talks, etc.
In particular, we are looking to commission an artist who is interested in exploring live streaming as an artistic medium, and to create an art piece that will culminate in a livestream experience. The applicant will work with technicians and a mentor or mentors.
Examples of creative use of live streaming are:
- interactive online performance/drama/narrative using chat or forms of live technology. e.g. users affect the course of the story in live time.
- multi location political action.
- Use of online streaming tools and/or social media to bend reality, forcing reflection on these elements themselves
Requirements:
- You must be 30 years of age or under at the start of the residency;
- be legally entitled to work in Canada (ie. a citizen, permanent resident or person with refugee status; work permits are ineligible);
- self-identify as un- or under-employed (i.e. employed below your level of education, holding part-time employment, or working in an emerging field with few available jobs);
- have completed post-secondary studies.
This is a paid position, funded through the Digital Skills for Youth program administered by the Independent Media Arts Alliance, with funding from the Government of Canada. We are hoping to engage an artist for 21 – 28 hrs./ week for up to 8 weeks.
Wage: $24/ hr.
