In the flux of a world undergoing catastrophic eco-system disruption we often remove ourselves from seeing the impact of our consumption. Collapsing the difference between “here” and “there”, “trash island (working title)” is an experimental artist residency and project examining the impact human activity has had on two rivers in North and South America.
With a focus on the Humber River - a place meaningfully connected to both artists - and the Amazon River - a river sacred to Andrea, her family history, and the planet - Andrea Cataro and Katika Marczell will explore connections between trash, water, human activity, and environmental harm. This project utilizes projection mapping, found materials, sculpture, and murals to produce a series of 3 one-night events taking place between November 2024 to March 2025.
