Flicks Newcomer Youth Project is the first youth initiative of the YMCA. The project was developed in partnership with Charles Street Video and much like the Queer Youth Digital Video Project, will continue as an annual initiative. The project is for newcomer youth and enables participants to tell their stories and share their experiences immigrating and settling into Canada. Youth will be offered high quality production gear and professional instruction with a focus on craft to produce videos that they write, record and edit by themselves. Instruction will also include exposure to video art, documentary and other video-making practices with an introduction to new media technology. Youth will be given a 1-year membership to Charles Street Video to facilitate the creation of works after the project's completion. Films will be screened internally within the YMCA of Greater Toronto and for the community at large at the Flicks Film Festival. All videos will be merged into one compilation DVD.
