Multiple Camera Live Streaming

In the past few years, online interactive and digital media have been gaining a lot of ground and the technologies required to realize these works have become more powerful and more accessible. This was hastened by the challenges presented by COVID to the performing arts community.

In this workshop I will share with you some of the basic techniques, platforms and methodologies involved in planning for and realizing engaging online content with a focus on live streaming. In particular we will cover:

- Basics of single camera and multi camera set up and preparation for live streaming
- Basics of lighting for professional looking online streaming.
- A survey of tools and platforms for online streaming with focus on OBS, BlackMagic platforms, Restream and streaming to Vimeo, Zoom and Youtube.
- A discussion of the technical specifications of online video including Frame Rates, Audio Sample Rates, Compression formats and Data Rates.
- A brief survey of integrating other tools such as Multi-platform chat servers and closed captioning services.
- Finally, I will walk you through the steps necessary setup and run your stream successfully.

Instructor: David Mesiha

David Mesiha is an award winning music composer, sound designer, video designer, media artist and Theatre Devisor. He is also Co-Artistic Director of Theatre Conspiracy in Vancouver.

As a media artist and New Media specialist David works in a wide range of immersive, interactive and innovative new media
experiences and performances. As an interactive experience designer he has been working with The Cultch in Vancouver on their Digital Story Telling initiative. The approach has been helping artists expand beyond the physical walls of the theatre and into online and on site interactive, media driven spaces that immerse audiences into new forms of story telling. He is a co creator, composer and tour technical director for the award winning show Foreign Radical. The show has been touring nationally and internationally with notable presentations and awards at the inaugural Canada Hub at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and most recently has received its french premier. David has a long history of working in immersive theatre utilizing emerging technologies to establish innovative dramaturgical approaches that challenges performance forms. Other select titles include Leaky Heaven’s Project (X) Faust, Theatre Passe Muraille’s Sound of The Beast with Donna Michelle St. Bernard and the immersive sound design of IFT theatre’s 2016 production Oraltorio. Film & tV credits include, +-40, Spirit Glitch, The Mission, Toward You.

Currently David is leading the creation of Same Difference with Theatre Conspiracy and a team of collaborator. The project is a
devised piece that applies immersive techniques, chamber music and immersive video to examining issues of identity, sense of
self, belonging and immigration.
