This workshop will provide a full overview of the documentary filmmaking process from concept through to screening. We will explore issues that arise when you set out to make a documentary film; questions of consent, release forms, interview ethics, funding etc. The course will also provide insight into the different documentary forms with their advantages and challenges, from bio-pics to cinema-verite, through to essayist and historical pieces. This course will help prepare you to shoot your next documentary film!

Instructor: Ross Turnbull Ross Turnbull has made many short films and video works, two feature-length dramas and a long documentary essay entitled Terminal Device. He has edited more than 70 works, comprising many different flavours, by other artists. He has worked as an arts administrator and advocate and was formerly the Film Officer at the Canada Council for the Arts.
