Hacking Festival Submissions

For filmmakers going through the submissions process for the first or second time. Students learn to formulate cold emails, prepare FilmFreeway accounts for maximum pre-screener passing, and how to attract the eyes of the right programmers with research, festival attendance, and networking. How to get your film seen, and how to properly see your own film so you spend your submissions funds properly.

Mara Goldbloom Micomonaco is a Queer Trans Jewish-Italian, Programmer, Director-Writer, and Co-Founder of The Kitsch Generation - based in Toronto. Their work straddles the dramedy line with a strong sense of nostalgia for all things girly-pop. Alum of Spindle Films Mentorship and Series Mania: Writers Campus 2025. Their films were screened at Inside Out, BFI Flare, TIFF Digital, Outfest, Frameline, Reelworld, NFFTY, and more. Currently, they are obsessed with all things on VHS, limoncello with prosecco, Isabella Rossellini, and the smell of jasmine.
